This workshop was based upon the screen printing process however due to time restrictions, we did a similar process of creating a stencil and using a paint roller over the top. I used a scalpel in order to cut out the shapes and type. The picture was chosen by choosing a random word which you then had to create artwork based upon it. My random topic was television, therefore I explored some ideas initially using a storyboarding process, some more successfully than others. This can be seen below.
I then recreated this type by drawing it out on an A3 piece of card and cutting it out using a scalpel. This process can be seen documented below.
After this I then placed the stencil over another piece of A3 piece of card then painted over it using a paint roller. My idea was that this part is two people watching a television, however the television ended up being a compromised design as I tried to do a more complex design of a television screen which had jagged lines across it due to no signal but it did not go as planned. I tried to fade the design out as it got nearer the bottom which worked well to an extent. The result of this can be seen below.
The next stage was writing text to put over the top of the original design, this was again chosen at random. Again I made some initial smaller sketches to experiment with ideas, these can be seen below.
I then drew it on another A3 piece of card used the scalpel and repeated the painting process with the roller over the top of my first piece of work. I used a contrasting colour of red in order to make the text stand out from the dark backdrop. This is the end result below, I am very pleased with the end product considering that this is not something that I would usually do.
