The main skill of the workshop was to create the effect of pealing or placing a sticker. To showcase this I chose to use a theme of spaces it is something that is visually interesting and has lots of probabilities to explore. I chose to go with a more educational option with my design, creating a diagram of the solar system using planets and their distances from the sun. Initially I drew out the different planets on illustrator in the same layout that they would appear in the composition. I made sure to have each planet on a different layer in order to be able to split them when imported into after effects. The illustrator file can be seen below.
Once imported into after effects I did a similar process for each of the different planets, inserting them into the composition one by one then applying the page turn effect. Under the animation presets and distort there was the CC Page Turn affect, I applied this to each planet. An example of this can be seen below.
I chose two points on the timeline one second apart and applied a keyframe at each for both the fold direction and fold position. I then went to the first keyframe and changed the fold direction to -45 and for the fold position I dragged the crosshairs that showed the point upwards until the planet was just off the screen so could no longer be seen. I then moved to the second keyframe and pulled the crosshairs for fold position down towards the final location of the planet until the fold process was complete and it was fully flat. I then repeated this process for each of the planet in turn, giving them a one second slot each. For each planet I then wrote its name next to it but then animated starting from half way through the sticker animation. I used a different effect for the name of each planet however two which have been shown below are Mars and Earth.
For the Earth text you can see the red path of the position change of the planet with the idea being that it looked like it dodges and weaves around planets. Not only does it change position but it also spins into the piece whilst moving in as I felt as if it went with the theme of it flying uncontrollably through space. Whereas with the mars text it grows on the same point from nothing however as can be seen by the multiple keyframe it grows from nothing then repeatedly proceeds to go larger and smaller before eventually stoping at its eventual size. The final animation can be seen below.
