Semiotics: Quick Analysis - Thursday 24th November
In this lecture we looked into the LifeSaver syringe which turns red when exposed to oxygen to alert people that the needle might have been used before and consequently try prevent the spreading of diseases like AIDS. We looked into the idea of red making people think danger therefore they are less likely to want to have the injection. Also the typeface used is in a style which you would associate with things that save lives such as buoyancy aids. Consequently all of these semiotic symbols subconsciously make people afraid of the red syringe. We then also looked at the assessment criteria for our studio work. There are four categories: concept development, aesthetics and language, technical response and integration and synthesis. Understand these better will allow me to understand what I need to do in my work in order to fulfil these aims.
