Summer update - Thursday 29th June

So over the break from university I have been trying to keep producing design work consistently in order to try and improve. Some of the work I have been doing has been freelance design work which has particularly testing and a good source of experience. For a few years now I have done small bits of work for a local community project which is involved in restoring an Edwardian house which is in my local park. This has led to me getting the opportunity of more work as the group develops. This summer I have been given two jobs from this group. One of which I have completed which was poster for meet up for people over 60 who live on their own ad go to the group for company. Something which I found out a few years ago when I first started doing freelance work, that also was applicable with this project, is that what you personally may feel is the best design out of the ones that you offer to the client, may not be the one that is chosen. That is something that you have to accept as it is the client who is paying you to do the work and ultimately they have the final say on the matter. So below there is the first picture of the design which I personally felt was the best for the poster and the second image is the one that was chosen and is now in use.

The second job I have been given which is still on going is the branding of a cafe which is opening in the house. This will be the biggest project I personally done, as there is so much to do such as signage, menus, napkins etc. The cafe is called Mephisto's which is the name of the pet monkey which belonged to the Newall family who owned the house. As the work is still in progress I don't want to show too much of it until its actual release. However I will show one of the drawings that I have done myself on a graphics tablet for one of the potential logos for the cafe. It is a capuchin monkey as is shown below.
