Brief One - Tuesday 26th September
The new brief which we received was about choosing an object and creating a narrative for it. This session was about thinking off ideas of possible routes for the project to potentially take. I initially brainstormed some key words that are associated with the idea of genealogy so family, history and sentiment. I then intended to use these as a starting point for further ideas. The ideas I came up with from these keywords was a project based around items from my childhood or for a more personal approach a project on cricket as it is something that runs incredibly strongly in my family therefore is something personal to me. However the idea which I went on to develop the most came from looking at items on the table that I was working at. I began to think about how bottles were simply a vessel for their contents. The contents of the bottle can change and also differ from bottle to bottle. This is very similar to people, in the fact that humans change and evolve on the inside much like the contents of the bottle. Every person has a similar exterior with slight differences, but the flawless exterior of the bottle can contain anything on the inside. I thought that this would be a good way to show how although people look a certain way on the outside it does not mean that reflects what is on the inside. After a brief discussion with one of the tutors it was also suggested the idea of taking the project beyond just bottles and then using objects to represent celebrities, for example. This is similar to the hashtag "I See Faces" which is a collection of people using everyday objects in order to create a face in an image. This could be similar to something which I could pursue.
