The seminar just followed on about semiotics and looked at existing Christmas television advert highlight their use of semiotics. We looked at four separate adverts: the Sainsbury's/Gogglebox advert, John Lewis advert, last years Sainsbury's advert and the man with the telescope from last year. We then analysed them, for example, the man with the telescope uses the contrast of young and old along with music that is used to provoke emotion from the viewer. Furthermore there is a scene in the advert in which the old man and the little girl catch eye contact down the telescope which is used to show love and a bond that has been made between the two of them this suggests that this is what Christmas is all about.
